How old were you when you began wearing makeup?

How young is to young to wear makeup outside of the house?

I started wearing "real" makeup when i was a freshmen in high school, and even then i didn't wear much. How old were you? This thought has been running through my mind for awhile. I have taken a notice of very young girls dressing way beyond their years.

I am the mother of a 2 1/2 year old daughter that is allowed to dress up in her plastic high heels and play with makeup. She has fun doing it, but she understands that it is playing dress up. Today while running errands i was at Target and as always i was in the beauty section and i could over hear a mother letting her daughter pick out fake press on nails for the first day of school..the little girl couldn't have been older than 7. My mother would have never let me wear fake nails at such a young age. But in this society it seems acceptable for a little girl to wear mini skirts, midriff bearing shirts, heels, and the list goes on.

It scares me about my little girl growing up and wanting to dress this way..which my husband has already said over his dead body will she be wearing makeup and mini skirts..lol I just think we should let them be little. If they start wearing makeup, heels, fake nails then they can't look forward to doing those things when they are older. Maybe i am just to conservative.

Do you have any opinions on this?

ahh i know what you mean! i can understand you completely! I dont feel I am conservative. so I think I understand from both sides.
My daughter is seven and i would probably let her wear nails.to me its much different than getting acrylics that were gonna tear her nail beds apart if she broke one. But I still would never let her dress in the midriffs mini skirts and all that you mentioned above. She is still my baby. I sometimes let her wear gloss cause i know it makes her happy and it will rub off in an hours time. lol.
She dresses like hannah montana most of the time. Wears scarfs and pouffy skirts! I let her wear crazy polish and stuff like that casue it doesnt change who she is.Shes a good girl and I feel like these things are small compared to what I could be dealing with.

a whole lot to say in such a small space but hopefully you knew what i meant!

I do not have kids but I am totally with you on this one.

I started wearing makeup properly when I was 16/17. As you said my mum would let me play with makeup when I was younger but I certainly wouldn't have been allowed to wear it going out!

It is sad when you see kids growing up too fast.

Apart from events/special occasions I didn't really start wearing makeup regularly until I was aorund 20- I was late to discovering the joys of makeup! I'ma school teacher and I have to say though, sometimes I get sad by some of the really young girls wearing makeup, they really don't need it!

I was sophomore in High school when I started wearing make up. However, I strongly agree with the new trend stress. I feel like kids are not allowed to be kids. They should enjoy dressing in their colorful clothing and get it dirty. I let me kids have fun and play as much as they want because I know this is the only time they can feel imaginative and feely about it. As we get older, we have responsibilities.

I was 13 when I started wearing make-up, but I wasn't allowed to wear much.

I don't have children, but if I did I'd let them play with it a little- including my sons. Once they were 12 or 13, I'll let them wear some of it out (my sons included, again) but not too much.

This also includes fashions. I once saw a mother buying her daughter (no older than 10 years old) Playboy t-shirts and bags. I found that really shocking, to be honest =/

I got into makeup at age 16/17 but didn't seriously start wearing it till I was 19. Even then it was just eyeliner and lipstick.

My daughter is six -- I do let her play with my makeup cast-offs at home when she's playing dress up etc. I do let her wear lip balm or gloss but usually not in any noticeable colour. I think she does try to mimic me in some ways but I am very conscious of making sure it isn't over the top and is appropriate for her age.

To everyone I love reading everyone's opinion on this subject. I'm glad i'm not alone on this, I just think little girls should stay little...they grow up fast enough as it is.
